A President Who Has Found His Voice, And A Speaker Who Needs To Lose Hers

I don’t like Nancy Pelosi… I’ll get that right out of the way first.  She is two-faced, underhanded, and a fomenter of political chaos…as long as when the whirlwind stops, she’s still standing with every hair neatly in place.  When she took impeachment proceedings against the President and Vice President off the table, I completely lost respect for her.  As Minority Leader, she took a stand FOR the Iraq War (of course, before she was against it) and rolled over and played dead like the rest of House and Senate Democrats in allowing then-President Bush and Vice President/Sith Lord Vader to completely trash the Constitution in the process.  There was no oversight, except for that of what she was going to wear that morning to the office.  She was an abject failure and an abysmal excuse for a Congressional Representative.

So it is with no surprise that the Economic Stimulus Bill she allowed to come to the Floor of the House for a vote was leaden with pork and pet projects; and don’t let anyone tell you that there wasn’t any so-called earmarks in there either.  Stimulus funding for Hollywood?  Family Planning?  There is a laundry list of things that should NEVER have made their way into that Bill; it was and is a complete and total disgrace to this country and this President…who made it understood that he did not want any such unnecessary items in the Bill.  That Bill had her fingerprints all over it, make no mistake about it; and like I said in an earlier post, it gave the Republicans ammunition to fire back at the whole plan as preposterous.  While I agree with the Republicans on the need to remove the unnecessary crap from the Bill, I disagree with them on wanting even more tax cuts than the President has already allowed to be placed in the package.  The tax cuts that are there are fine as is, and are logically targeted at the Middle Class and Small Businesses.  By putting that Bill out there, she allowed the Republicans to completely control the debate, and garner favorable public opinion which is uninformed on many levels.  The GOP continue to harp on items not even in the Bill any longer, as though they were still in there…the Democrats were losing the PR Battle.

Until yesterday and today.  That is when the President not so gently sent a message to Congress that this Bill is in need of passage, and that there was an Election in November and the vote was to change the way business had been done over the past eight years.  The past eight years of running up over a trillion of dollars in deficits (more than any other Administration COMBINED) and now the Republicans suddenly found Jesus and are now very concerned about spending.  The past eight years of deregulation and tax cuts that have caused the economic crisis in which we now find ourselves.  The past eight years of spending on an unnecessary war in Iraq.  The President trusted the good folks on the Hill in his own Party.  He expected leadership from Nancy Pelosi.  What he got instead was farce and folly.  Today, the gentleman who works out of an Oval Office brought his sword and armor with him to the Department of Energy where he gave a cogent outline, bullet-pointed and easy to follow of what’s in the Bill that’s GOOD and NECESSARY.  He then left (still in armor) and went back to the White House to do battle behind closed doors; and although she wasn’t there with him, he most certainly called Madam Speaker to let her know his displeasure of the circumstances which SHE got him in.  He’s now there still working with Senators on their Bill removing the crap that was allowed in by Harry Reid because he’s Nancy’s political puppydog and followed her on the leash.

It is often said that the greatest enemy comes from within, and without a doubt the true enemy of President Barack Obama is not the entire GOP contingent in Congress, nor Rush Limbaugh, nor Billo The Clown.  It’s not even Harry Reid.  It’s The Speaker of The House, she of grand designs and a vision of herself as a political Joan of Arc.  I believe that The President has learned his first lesson in governing and Washington hardball.  He may not hit a Home Run, but he will at least get a single or perhaps a double with passage of this Bill in the Senate tonight.  And if I read my Chicago baseball loving President correctly, he has Rahm Emmanuel working on a double switch to get Nancy Pelosi out of that Speaker’s Chair as soon as possible; perhaps within a year even before the next Congressional election.  If Madame Speaker had visions of Jeanne D’Arc, she should remember her demise…and right now, the match for the pyre has been lit.

  1. I agree, I agree !!! ….for most of it (and there you thought you had me). You can’t blame the Republicans for running up the deficit…Congress, controlled by the Democrats, gave the former President that authority.

Change is not a coming anytime soon….looks like our Congress has reverted to their selfish special interests in a time of national crisis. President Obama forgot that real Change would involve convincing 500+ representatives to “change their spots” so to speak.

This anti-stimulus package is filled with pork like no-one has ever seen AND no-one can account for $78 Billion of “stimulus” $ from the prior bill — and we should vote for this again WHY? Can anyone actually tell me what this stimulus package will SPECIFICALLY do to aide the middle class taxpayer? The answer is NO — thankfully there is what I would call the intelligent minority of Conservative Republicans and Moderate Democrats that actually have principles and have banded together to try and remove the “porkulus packages” but the House/Senate leadership has been resistant, and in fact, failed to debate the contents of the stimulus — or should I now say the SPENDING Bill” — for fear of exposure to its true contents. This is an embarrassment to our country and Congress is to blame.

And while I’m on the subject of CHANGE — 3 failed nominees for Cabinet and another likely on the way….Church/State seem to be moving closer together —-and spending more money to get us out of DEBT ??? — sounds like BAD Change….sounds like Obama, Pelosi and Reid have been hitting the bong with our Olympic swimmer.

  2. The Blogs are out for Pelosi and Reid to be removed from their positions…and the biggest noise is from the Progressive Blogs, no less!

NOTE: It IS a SPENDING Bill. That’s what STIMULUS is (to paraphrase President Obama). It’s what is being spent that is the issue. Infrastructure (WAY more than is in there now) and Tax Cuts (just fine as is) OK. The rest of the garbage has to go. Count me as one Progressive who is disgusted at the performance of his fellow Progressives, and the whole damned Congress for acting like a bunch of 1st Graders.

Yes, you will be running up the deficit. YOU HAVE TO…KEYNESIAN ECONOMICS, my friend. Worked for FDR and JFK, only they didn’t have crap in their packages which this one does. Pelosi started this disaster; the President has learned (unfortunately) that he cannot trust ANYONE but a few on the Hill to be sensible (on both sides of the aisle)…and this doesn’t include Pelosi OR Reid.

As far as the cabinet nominations go, every President has a few clunkers. He’s mad at his staff, and he took the blame, which is much more than I could say for the previous occupant of the White House. Lesson learned.

Final note: stop listening to Rush and the talking points of the day and reiterating them on this blog. Please use your own analysis, not that of that idiot that is the mascot of the GOP. You are smarter than that jerk.

While I side with and consider myself a Progressive, I am also a pragmatist who can look at all sides of an issue without spitting out any propaganda. Every word written in my blog is by me and thought by me alone, and not some sheet of talking points distributed by the local Democratic Party or Air America or MSNBC or ANY outlet for that matter.

I am entirely beholden to no party, and no drummer except the one whose beat I march to; I am an American first and foremost and I am a Progressive second. Whatever works to get this country moving again is what I am in favor of.

  3. ABSOLUTE FINAL NOTE: For the 8 years of the Bush Administration, BOTH houses of Congress were controlled by the REPUBLICANS for 6 OUT OF 8 YEARS. Democrats were only in charge for the last two. The rolled over and played dead for 8, that’s how come this country is in the state it’s in…no one had a set of balls…NO ONE…to tell former President Bush “NO!”

  4. The spending increases were the largest in Congress for the past two years under Democratic leadership. Obama’s clunkers are Big ones — more so than anyone in modern history for assigning Cabinet posts — and you can’t look backwards anymore — the Dems are in power now — it’s their ball to run with (so to speak) and I will be hammering the hell out of the leftist self serving agenda for the next four years. I can’t wait till the mid-term elections in two years…bye bye majority. It took only 3 weeks for the Democrats to truly screw up the next four for President Obama.

Another note, the President is a history revisionist — it wasn’t the tax cuts that tanked the economy, it was increased spending in conjunction with tax cuts — both sides of the ledger moving in opposite directions. A true “stimulus” is to cut government waste and spending and return the savings to the taxpayers — we are going in opposite directions. I think someone needs to tell us “how” this bill will provide jobs and economic relief instead of mortgaging away our future and the future of our children. Where is the missing $78 billions? and I want to advocate that they spend more? Please.

“We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work!”
    – FDR’s Treasure Secretary, Henry Morgenthau, in 1939, on 8 years of New Deal spending as an attempt to end the Great Depression

  5. So…I guess this means if he manages to do something good or lift our country out of the Depression we’re heading for…THE ONE 28 YEARS OF REAGONOMICS has brought us to…you won’t give credit for his good works.

I thought you were better than this; you have become like the rest of them. I hope they gave you good money for your soul…because you never know when you’re going to need it: money OR soul.
